The Cooper Regional History Museum, Upland, California |
|
Located at 217 West 'A' Street, Upland, California, The Cooper Regional History Museum is dedicated to preserving and interpreting the history and culture of the communities of Upland, Ontario, Montclair, Mt. Baldy, and Rancho Cucamonga from 1880 to the present day. Once housed at the Cultural Center, it moved to Upland's historic Town Center in April 1998.
Its home is the Ontario-Cucamonga Fruit Exchange, an Art Moderne office built in 1937. The O.K. Fruit Exchange, however, dates back to 1897 when it was formed to coordinate the sales of oranges, lemons, and grapefruit from a dozen local packing houses. When the Exchange closed in the 1960s, the building was used as offices by the West End Board of Realtors and several local attorneys and accountants. In 1997 the building was entirely rehabilitated to become the Cooper Regional History Museum. Funding for this project was provided by the estate of Ms. Ada Cooper.
As of April, 2008, we are usually open Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 11am to 5pm. If you plan to visit, please call to verify becuse we would hate to miss you!

Our Children's Courtyard - Update - 20 Feb 2008 |
|
Our former parking lot is finally being changed into a courtyard. We have been working on this project for what seems like forever!
It will have a tall wall on the north side as a backdrop to an outdoor stage. It will have retaining walls and planters along the east and south sides, with the Museum building forming the west wall.
We finally broke ground on January 7th, 2008. By noon the next day, all of the blacktop had been removed and the trenches had begun to apear.
As of now part of the walls are up, the concrete 'benches' and a center concrete pad have been poured. The tall 'poles' extending from six of the pillars will be used for a retractable shade cover that will make the area more comfortable on the warm summer days!
This project has been primarily funded by community enhancement funds but there will be a shortfall. we will be having some fund-raising events shortly to help pay for some of the finishing touches.
Chino Basin Water ConservationDistrct will be helping with the landscape. Our focus will be to have native plants that will not only be water thrifty but also add to our goals of local history and education.
We are really looking forward to this outdoor area so we can have more activities and children's educational experiences!
Do you need a nice venue for a special event? Contact Museum for more information!
Are you looking for a nice tax write-off? A donation to the courtyard fund would be great! We still need to fund shade cover and your help would be well appreciated.
